Civil Supplies officials and police seized 35 tonnes of PDS rice near Shamirpet and arrested two persons. The rice, meant for public distribution, was being illegally diverted to Madhya Pradesh. Authorities are investigating the larger smuggling network involved.

Police in Kumram Bheem Asifabad booked three traders for allegedly diverting PDS rice in Jainoor mandal. A total of 64 quintals of rice was seized during inspections, and investigations have been launched into the illegal activity.

People were seen standing in queues in front of ration shops right from morning. In some areas, ration cards and empty rice bags were placed in queue lines. Distribution of rice was resumed after the problem was rectified.

Utnoor ASP Kajal Singh, in a statement, said that Nallanna Krishnaiah, Thakur Arun Singh, Thakur Dhara Singh and Gyan Singh, were apprehended while shipping the grains, following a tip-off

The smugglers are procuring the grains from dealers of fair price shops and middlemen who purchase the rice from beneficiaries of the food security scheme.

Police reported that a case has been filed against three unidentified individuals for assaulting Imran Khan, a resident of Dwarakanagar in the town. According to Khan, the attackers targeted him, accusing him of revealing information about PDS rice smugglers to the authorities. He claimed that they branded him a police informant before physically assaulting him.

Value of the grains was assessed to be Rs 7.48 lakh
