Adilabad: Agrarian community celebrated the annual Polala, a festival of thanksgiving to farm animals for toiling for their masters, on a colourful note across erstwhile Adilabad on Tuesday.
As part of the festival, the farmers bathed the bullocks in nearby irrigation tanks. They then decorated the farm animals with vibrant colours and joon (colourful cloth) before taking them in processions to temples. They circumambulated the animals around local temples.
The farmers, later, offered delicious food items as ‘naivedyam’ to the farm animals. Women worshipped the animals with ‘harati’. The festival marked a day of rest for the animals.
The ryots revered the bovines, known as vehicle of Lord Shiva, and appreciated them for playing a vital role in their lives. Cultural programmes were also conducted to mark the occasion in certain parts of the district. The countryside came alive with farmers celebrating the festival.
