Adilabad: Adilabad district saw a dip in crime rate by 19 percent in 2021 when compared to the previous year. Superintendent of Police D Uday Kumar Reddy briefed the crime rate registered by the district in the year 2021 during the annual press conference held here on Wednesday.
Uday Kumar said that the district registered 2,300 cases from January 1 to December 29 as against 2,839 cases reported in the corresponding period of 2020, reflecting a decrease of 18.98 percent. The district, however, recorded a decline in conviction rate. It registered 641 convictions in 2021 when compared to 768 achieved in 2020, suggesting a drop by 16.53 percent.
Crimes against women up
The SP further said that the district witnessed a rise in crimes against women in the year. As many as 258 cases pertaining to crimes against women were reported in 2021 when compared to 208 registered in 2020. Similarly, crimes against SC, ST were also increased by 19.23 percent. The district saw 31 cases in 2021 as against 26 in 2020.
75% rise in drunk driving cases.

According to the data provided by the head of the district police administration, road accidents were reduced by 8.58 percent in 2021. As many as 231 cases were registered in 2021 and 233 in 2020. The district registered a steep rise in drunk and drive cases. It recorded 862 cases in 2021 and 496 in 2020, suggesting an increase of 75 percent.
Gambling cases drop
Meanwhile, the district saw a dip in gambling cases this year. It witnessed 56 cases in 2021 as against 93 cases reported in 2020. But, the cases of matka, another form of gambling have gone up by 27 percent. The district had 84 cases this year when compared to 66 cases in the previous year. At the same time, the district recorded a decline in excise cases by 55 percent.
