Adilabad sees marginal rise in crimes in 2020

A total of 764 accused persons were convicted as against 489 persons who were booked in various crimes in 2019.

Adilabad: Despite a slew of measures to control offences, the annual crime rate of Adilabad district rose by 6 percent in 2020 as against that of 2019.

According to the data released by the police authorities, the district saw a total of 2,822 crimes in this year when compared to 2,652 offences reported in the previous year. However, the conviction rate has gone up. A total of 764 accused persons were convicted as against 489 persons who were booked in various crimes in 2019.

At the same time, crimes against women saw a dip. The district registered 200 offences against women in 2020 when compared to 234 reported in the previous year. It recorded 231 road accidents in this year and 274 in 2019.  As many as 123 persons were killed in the mishaps and 167 persons had sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, Kumram Bheem Asifabad district witnessed an increase in crimes by 7.6 percent in 2020. It recorded 2,376 crimes as against 2,208 cases reported in 2019.  It saw 124 thefts in this year when compared to 91 in the last year, showing a rise of 36 percent. However, deaths due to road accidents and violence against women dropped down.
