Adilabad: The immersion of Lord Ganesh idols went off peacefully in Adilabad, Mancherial, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad and Nirmal districts on Sunday evening.
The devotees from all walks of life performed special prayers to the god of wisdom, who eliminates obstacles, and bid adieu to Lord Ganesh on the culmination day of nine-day festival. The pandal organisers conducted ‘Annadanam’ or feeding the poor, to mark the occasion. During the procession, the devotees, dressed in special attire wearing saffron headbands and tilak, were seen dancing to drum beats, folksongs and chanting “Ganapathi Bappa Moriya”, “Ganesh Maharaj Ki Jai”, etc., while the women devotees performed ‘Kolatam’, a stick dance, and other forms of dance.
The devout took out massive procession of Shobhayatra in order to immerse the idols from pandals to nearby tanks, streams, rivulets and rivers. They soaked in the devotion even as the towns and mandal centres were witnessing downpours during the procession.
In order to ensure smooth conduct of the immersion, cops took a slew of measures by coordinating with the roads and building, municipality and revenue departments. They pressed expert divers into action, illuminated the immersion points and installed CCTV cameras in these districts for keeping tab on trouble-makers. Large cranes were arranged for the immersion of the idols in water bodies. Traffic restrictions were imposed in certain towns.
In Nirmal, Forest Minister A Indrakaran Reddy launched the immersion by performing special prayers at different pandals. Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna, ZP Chairperson Rathod Janardhan, BJP district president Payal Shankar, Collector Sikta Patnaik, in-charge SP M Rajesh Chandra took part in the shobhayatra held in Adilabad district centre where idols were immersed in Penganga river.
