Adivasi outfits demand Rs 5 crore for family of nurse raped, killed in Hyderabad
Adivasi outfits in Telangana demanded Rs 5 crore compensation and a government job for the family of a nurse who was raped and murdered in Tukkuguda. They also sought a fast-track trial and an inquiry into alleged safety lapses at her hospital.
Adivasis staged a protest at Bhadrachalam demanding action against the accused involved in rape and murder of a tribal nurse.
Kothagudem: The last rites of an Adivasi nurse, who was raped and murdered in Tukkuguda in Hyderabad, were conducted in her native village in Mulakalapalli mandal in the district on Monday.
Aswaraopet MLA Jare Adinarayana took part in the final rites, consoled the bereaved family members and promised to stand by them at all times. The MLA urged the government to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident and punish the accused severely.
Former MLAs Mecha Nageswara Rao and Tati Venkateswarlu also visited the family, paid tribute to the nurse’s portrait and offered their condolences. A pall of gloom descended upon the village as the body of the nurse was brought there.
Later in the day, a massive candlelight rally was held by Bhadrachalam Adivasi Samithi (BAS) at Bhadrachalam, where local MLA Dr Tellam Venkat Rao and others took part in the rally. A similar rally was held at Mulakalapalli by Mulakalapalli Adivasi JAC.
The Adivasi leaders demanded that the State government provide an ex-gratia of Rs 5 crore to the affected family along with a government job to an eligible member of the family. They wanted measures to be taken to ensure speedy justice by having the case tried in a fast-track court.
They also wanted an inquiry to be conducted into the negligence of Prime Care Multi-Specialty Hospital regarding safety standards for female staff working at the hospital.
