Hyderabad: The State government has directed private hospitals to admit Covid patients with moderate or severe infection only. Asymptomatic and those with mild symptoms who have an oxygen saturation of more than 94 per cent should be recommended for home or institutional isolation, it said.

The government has also directed private hospitals not to insist on Covid test results while admitting moderate and severe patients. All private hospitals must place a display board at the entrance with details of the availability of regular beds, oxygen beds, ICU beds (ventilator/CPAPS) on a real-time basis.

In the last one month, the positivity rate in Telangana has steadily increased to over 10 per cent while the effective reproduction number R (t) for the State is close to 1.6. Due to the rising healthcare parameters that reflect the spread of the Covid pandemic, the Health Department directed Telangana Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (THANA), Telangana Super Speciality Hospitals Association (TASHA) and Indian Medical Association (IMA), Telangana, to start triaging and allot hospital beds only to the most deserving patients depending on their medical condition.

As on Tuesday, hospital beds equipped with oxygen and ventilators are occupied in almost all private and super-speciality hospitals with over 100 beds under THANA and TASHA.

Pvt hospitals allowed to vaccinate 45+

The State government on Tuesday also permitted private hospitals to administer Covid vaccines to individuals above 45 years. However, they must vaccinate only those who have booked a slot through the CoWIN portal and should not entertain onsite registrations or walk-ins.

Private hospitals will have to procure vaccines on their own directly from manufacturers to vaccinate people of this age group.

The inoculation of individuals between 18 years and 44 years would be taken up in due course of time, and people would be informed about it accordingly. Private hospitals must strictly follow the directives, and stringent action would be initiated against defaulters, said Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr G Srinivasa Rao.
