BRS cadres demand arrest of Congress MLA Shankar, stages candle-light protest at Manuguru

Kothagudem: A large number of BRS activists staged a candlelight protest at the Dr BR Ambedkar statue in Manuguru in the district on Tuesday, demanding the arrest of MLA Veerlapally Shankar, who allegedly incited Dalits to attack the residence of party chief K Chandrashekhar Rao in Erravalli.

Speaking to the media, BRS leaders strongly condemned the demeanour of Shankar, who publicly stated that he wished for Chandrashekhar Rao’s death while organising a ‘thousand-drum rally’ at the BRS chief’s residence.

They stated that the people of Telangana were watching how the Congress government was stifling the voice of the Opposition and would teach the party a fitting lesson in the near future. They said it was shameful for the police to act like Congress party workers and transport Dalits to Erravalli.

The arrest of BRS working president KT Rama Rao and former Minister T Harish Rao while they were on their way to the Erravalli farmhouse was a clear indication of the Congress party’s political bankruptcy, they noted.

Earlier in the day, BRS cadres in Khammam and Kothagudem lodged complaints with the police, seeking to book criminal cases against Shadnagar MLA Shankar. Similarly, memorandums were submitted at Ambedkar statues, urging the Congress government to fulfil its election promises.
