New Delhi: A 31-year-old software engineer allegedly died after being brutally assaulted by his wife’s relatives following a domestic dispute at his residence in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area.

The deceased, identified as Vinay Gupta, was a resident of Laxmi Park and worked as a software engineer with Adobe in Noida. He had married his 31-year-old wife, a homemaker, around three-and-a-half years ago. The couple had twin children, a son and a daughter, who are about four-and-a-half months old.

According to the victim’s family, an argument broke out between Gupta and his wife in the morning over a matrimonial issue. Following the dispute, the woman allegedly contacted members of her parental family, who later arrived at the couple’s residence in Nihal Vihar.

The family alleged that Gupta was subsequently attacked and severely beaten by his wife’s relatives. His mother claimed that she had stepped out to arrange water and refreshments for the visitors when the alleged assault began.

When she returned, she reportedly found her son being attacked. She allegedly tried to intervene and called for help, pleading with the assailants to stop, but the assault continued, according to the family.

Gupta was later rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

His father said the couple had been facing disagreements over minor issues for some time and the family had hoped that the matter could be resolved through discussion. However, the situation allegedly took a violent turn.

The deceased man’s family has accused Gupta’s wife and six to seven other people of involvement in the alleged assault.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, while a forensic team visited the house and collected evidence. Four people have been identified and detained in connection with the case.

A case is being registered under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and determine the role of all those allegedly involved.
