Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, pulling out all the weapons from his armoury to put the BJP government at the Centre on notice, said the performance of the saffron party in the recent Assembly elections in five States was a categorical statement by the people of the country that BJP had to be snuffed out in the next elections.
“If the BJP is allowed to continue to rule the country, it would lead to catastrophic consequences and the people have taken note of this fact. With eight budgets behind them, the BJP government still has nothing to show. Thus far, it has only been fluff, big talk and no action but high on divisive politics and rhetoric that doesn’t augur well for the nation,” Chandrashekhar Rao said, addressing mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan after a meeting with all the elected representatives of the TRS on Monday.
The TRS president, pointing out that he had predicted about the BJP strength going down in Uttar Pradesh, said his words had come true with the saffron party’s numbers dipping not only in UP but also in Uttarakhand besides virtually drawing a blank in Punjab. “This is a clear indication that people are ready for a change and throw out the BJP government,” he said.
The Chief Minister, reeling out statistics and facts, wondered what the saffron party had to show in the past eight years of governance, be it in economic growth, implementation of new projects, overall development, people’s welfare or checking unemployment. “On the contrary, the country has only been faring atrociously on various global indices, be it GDP growth, unemployment rate, hunger index and happiness quotient, slipping badly on all fronts,” he said, adding that such facts about the BJP government can’t be undermined or brushed under the carpet.
Chandrashekhar Rao, who spoke on a variety of subjects covering national and State level issues, said the BJP was only staging a political drama dragging issues such as Kashmiri Pandits, Shivaji’s statue, Phulwama attacks and the likes into centre-stage as part of it game-plan of encouraging politics of hate for polarization of votes with an eye on the 2024 general elections.
“Given the circumstances and the cross-roads the country is placed in, the need of the hour is to throw out the BJP and introduce structural changes in the interest of the nation. Ours is a democratic system and people should get what is good for them,” he said.
To a query on the alternative to the BJP in the country, Chandrashekhar Rao said that with 50 years of political experience behind him, he could emphatically state that an excellent alternative was possible and will emerge. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed miserably to deliver on his promises after the people gave him a good mandate. The people voted for BJP after UPA failed, but the BJP has fared worse than the UPA on all fronts. The facts and figures on various parameters including GDP growth and unemployment rate of the two governments (UPA and NDA) can’t be ignored,” he said.
Quoting from a recent Pavan Verma article, Chandrashekhar Rao said there was a vacuum in the political field in the country that was waiting to be filled. “The regional parties will play a key role and there is no reason why they should not come to power at the Centre since there is no alternative to throwing out the BJP government in the next elections.” he said.
