Mancherial: Police failed to trace the whereabouts of a person who managed to escape during a raid on a gambling den on the banks of the Godavari river near Thimmapur village.

The police search for the man continued for over a week but in vain. Police had detained eight persons during the raid.

Police said that Guda Mallesh, an auto-rickshaw driver from Nagasamudram village, was among eight persons who were booked for gambling on the night of April 16.

Mallesh managed to run away on noticing the arrival of the police. He has not returned home since then, forcing his family members to lodge a missing complaint with the police on April 17. A search operation was launched immediately, and around 100 persons, including locals and police personnel, thoroughly searched the area. A dog squad and a drone were also used but to no avail.

The outcome of the search operation has raised doubts over his survival. His mobile phone too remained switched off, leading to uncertainty over his whereabouts and worrying his family members.

Meanwhile, his family members, including his daughters Sushmita and Asha, are concerned about his whereabouts. They appealed to the police to locate him at the earliest.
