Mahabubnagar: Days after girl students of CMR Engineering College in Medchal district alleged that the hostel staff recorded their videos in bathrooms, another incident of videos being recorded through a mobile phone camera in Mahabubnagar Government Polytechnic College girls’ toilets came to light on Saturday. One youngster has reportedly been taken into custody.
Girls students alleged that someone had placed a camera in the washroom and recorded their visuals. The students staged a massive protest in front of the college and demanded the arrest of the culprit. Even ABVP members staged a protest at the college and demanded the government to immediately take action against the culprits.
According to the girl students, they noticed a mobile phone placed on the ventilation of the girl’s toilet from the side of the staff toilet. They informed the college authorities, who seized the mobile phone and handed over it to the college principal. After examining the mobile phone, it was found that it belonged to a third-year student, N Sidharth. He was immediately summoned and questioned about his action. However, Sidharth claimed that he lost the phone in the morning and that he had not placed the mobile phone in the girl’s toilet.
The girl students and their parents lodged a complaint with the police. The police, who took up the investigation, reportedly took Sidharth into custody and are interrogating him. Currently, it is not clear whether the phone was placed intentionally or Sidharth had forgotten the phone in the toilet as the staff toilet is being used by boys too. There is also no clarity on whether the recording was done through the mobile phone.
