Khammam: A mandal agriculture officer had a narrow escape after the car he was travelling in was submerged in floodwaters at a railway underbridge in Karepalli mandal of the district.
The incident occurred on the Charlapalli–Chimalpad road while agriculture officer Battu Ashok was on his way to Chimalpad. He drove the vehicle into stagnant water under the bridge, apparently underestimating its depth.
As the car reached the underbridge, the engine stalled and the vehicle began to float. Alert local farmers rushed to the spot and managed to pull the car out of the water. Ashok, who was visibly shaken by the incident, was taken to a hospital and later discharged after first aid.
Locals demanded that railway officials take immediate steps to prevent waterlogging under the bridge, which has become a recurring issue during the monsoon. They urged authorities to deploy alert staff on both sides and paint clear water depth markings at the site.
