Nagarkurnool: Ahead of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s visit to Kollapur constituency on Friday, police picked up about 10 journalists working for different publications and took them into preventive custody since Thursday midnight.
They were put up in the Kollapur and Pentlavelly police stations all day. The journalists were released only after the Chief Minister’s public meeting concluded in the constituency on Friday evening.
For the last few days, journalists from Pentlavelly, Peddakothapally, Koderu and Kollapur were conducting relay strikes demanding allocation of houses. They had even submitted representations to the District Collector and have been conducting protests at the Revenue Divisional Officer’s office in Kollapur.
The journalists also announced that they would meet the Chief Minister personally during his visit to the constituency and submit a representation to sanction houses. However, the police picked them up from their houses on Thursday midnight and Friday early hours and released them late in the evening.
