AIIMS Bibinagar to be converted as ‘plastic free campus’

Dr Vikas Bhatia said that June 5 was being observed as World Environment Day for creating awareness among the people on environmental issues like global warming, ozone layer depletion and desertification

Yadadri-Bhongir: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Bibinagar Executive Director Dr Vikas Bhatia on Saturday urged everyone to take pledge not to use items, which would create plastic waste, for protection of environment.

Launching a programme, which was taken up by the faculty to turn Bibinagar AIIMS as plastic free campus on the occasion of World Environment Day, Dr Vikas Bhatia said that June 5 was being observed as World Environment Day for creating awareness among the people on environmental issues like global warming, ozone layer depletion and desertification. The theme of World Environment Day-2021 is “Re-imagine, Recreate, Restore”.


He reminded that millions of tons of plastic is used by the people every day in the world resulting in creating plastic waste on earth and sea and that imbalances the ecosystem. He also said that sea animals were dying because of human beings ignorance. He opined that that usage of plastic bottles and plastic should be stopped. It is estimated that one million plastic bottles as well as one million plastic bags are thrown away every minute.  “We should not use plastic items as in our office,” he asserted, and requested all the faculty, staff and Nursing officers to educate the people about ill effects of usage of plastic on health as well as on the environment.

Dean of AIIMS Dr.Neeraj Agarwal Bibinagar told that no one should use plastic on the premises of the campus. Deputy Director Administration of AIIMS  Col.S. P. Anant Rao said that the AIIMS campus should be turned as plastic free zone and everyone should take part in it.

Metal bottles and jute Bags were distributed to facultiy, Nursing Officers and police officers in the campus on the occasion of world environment day. The staff of AIIMS were also took a pledge not to use plastic items in  AIIMS premises to turn it as plastic free campus.

Nodal Officer of Plastic free campus and climate change committee of the AIIMS Dr. Rashmi kundapur , was also present.
