AIMIM to contest 17 seats in West Bengal Assembly elections
AIMIM is contesting 17 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections in alliance with AJUP, focusing on minority-dominated constituencies. The party has released its first list of 12 candidates, while Asaduddin Owaisi campaigns in the State.

Hyderabad: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is likely to contest on 17 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections. The party is contesting the polls in alliance with former Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir’s Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP).
The AIMIM has released its first list of 12 candidates on Friday and is expected to announce its second list soon. “The names of five more are being finalised in consultation with the West Bengal party unit. The second list will be released soon,” said a party source.
The AIMIM is focusing on minority community-dominated constituencies in West Bengal in the current elections. The party has allied with the AJUP, and after discussions over seat sharing, announced its first list. The candidates for Raghunathganj, Asansol Uttar, Kandi, Sujapur, Mothabari, Nalhati, Morari, Barasat, Karandighi, Suti, Basirhat South, and Habra were announced.
Asaduddin Owaisi has already addressed a couple of public meetings in West Bengal in support of the party candidates and will attend a few more meetings in the coming days, the party sources said.
The AIMIM party is not fielding its candidates in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Assam. It is extending its support to other local parties in Assam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The AIMIM is supporting All India United Democratic Front of Badruddin Ajmal in Assam. In Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the party is supporting MK Stalin-led DMK.
