Ajith Kumar-starrer ‘Amarkkalam’ to re-release on April 24
Amarkkalam starring Ajith Kumar is set for a theatrical re-release on April 24. Directed by Saran, the 1999 blockbuster marked a turning point in Ajith’s career and is being promoted as a timeless love story by Sparrow Cinemas.

New Delhi: “Amarkkalam”, featuring Tamil actor Ajith Kumar, is set to re-release in theatres on April 24.
The film was directed by Saran and originally released on August 13, 1999. It featured Kumar in the role of Vasu, an unruly man, who fights with Mohana (essayed by Shalini), the daughter of a police officer, over a movie reel. Later, the two fall in love but end up in unforeseen problems while they try to unite.
Production banner Sparrow Cinemas shared the news with a post on it official X handle on Saturday. It featured the film’s poster. “AK & Shalini A love that still feels fresh, pure, and timeless… April 24 – Feel the love again in theatres,” read the caption.
“Entire Tamil Nadu theatrical release by Sparrow Cinemas – Karthick V. Some stories don’t age… they become emotions. #AK25 #AjithKumar #Shalini #ReRelease,” it added.
The film turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office, and it also marked the project which transformed Kumar from a romantic hero into a bankable action hero.
It was also remade in Telugu and was titled “Leela Mahal Centre”. It featured Aryan Rajesh and released in 2004. The Kannada version was titled “Asura” and released in 2001. It featured Shiva Rajkumar and Raghuvaran.
