Akbaruddin Owaisi exposes Congress false claims on outstanding liabilities

The State government should convince the RBI, which released the report on Thursday, to consider its figures on the outstanding liabilities rather than convincing the members in the House, he said, asking the Minister to quote the latest figures, and not obsolete figures.

Hyderabad: AIMIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi exposed the Congress government’s narrative on the State finances stating that as per the RBI’s report on ‘State Finances – a Study on State budgets 2024-25’, Telangana’s outstanding liabilities, including outstanding guarantees was Rs.4,32,154 crore as on March 31, 2024 against Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s claims of Rs.7,11,911 crore.

The State government should convince the RBI, which released the report on Thursday, to consider its figures on the outstanding liabilities rather than convincing the members in the House, he said, asking the Minister to quote the latest figures, and not obsolete figures.

Since the Congress government came to power, there have been several discussions in the Assembly on the State finances. An attempt was being made to present a bad picture on Telangana’s finances, which was against the State interests, he said in the Assembly.

Considering the last seven months total receipts, which was Rs.1,25,990 crore and the total expenditure, including salaries, subsidies, loans etc, it was Rs.1,23,799 crore. Still the State was left with nearly Rs.2,190 crore, he explained.

Taking serious objection over the Congress government’s efforts to present Telangana’s finances in poor condition just to corner the previous BRS government, the AIMIM floor leader said this did not augur well for the people.

“We want investments to come to Telangana and people should reap benefits. Generally, when a lender wants to lend money, he checks the repayment capacity. One cannot keep criticizing each other at the cost of people’s future,” Owaisi stressed.

He also took strong objection over repeated discussions on loans and reminded that already there have been several debates on the issue. Lakhs of public money was being spent to run the House and instead of wasting public money on repeated debates, the government can spend the same on implementation of six guarantees, he suggested.
