Hyderabad: Telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna has adopted a 1,000 acre forest block at Chengicherla on the outskirts of the city.
Nagarjuna along with his family members Amala Akkineni, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil, and actor Sushanth planted saplings as part of the initiative on Thursday. He also handed over a cheque of Rs 2 crore towards Telangana Haritha Nidhi (Green Fund).
Speaking on the occasion, Nagarjuna hailed the efforts of TRS MP J Santosh Kumar in making the State and the country greener. The actor recalled the promise that he gave to the TRS MP over the adaptation of forest on the stage of the reality show Bigg Boss Telugu Season 5 in the past. “I feel happy to be laying the foundation for the restoration of Urban Forest Park. The park is useful for the people residing in nearby colonies,” he said.
Taking to his Twitter handle, the actor wrote, “Many happy returns of the day to chief minister Kcr garu! Happy to announce the adoption and laying the foundation for the ANR URBAN PARK in chengicherla forest area by the Akkineni family 🙏 to #kcr garu and @MPsantoshtrs for this opportunity #greenindiachallenge #HBDKCR.”
