Hyderabad: With the Jubilee Hills bypoll campaign drawing to a close, accusations of blatant voter bribery by the ruling party have erupted in the high-stakes constituency.

With the pre-poll surveys projecting a strong lead for BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha, widow of the late MLA Maganti Gopinath, the ruling Congress appears to be pulling out all stops to get the better of the BRS candidate at any cost.

The money distribution operations are reportedly coordinated by a corporator from his residence, where senior party leaders including three Ministers were reported to have assembled. Dozens of cars kept arriving at the house from which leaders emerged to enter the house and later departed holding blue plastic bags suspected to contain wads of currency.

Videos of the leaders emerging out of the place and leaving went viral on social media platforms. Noticing that the videos were going viral, the Ministers were said to have quietly left the place.

Meanwhile, a team of cameramen and reporters of T News channel on the spot were accosted by a group of people, who objected to their presence and attempted to snatch the telephones of the media team. At the same time, police teams and the flying squads of the Election Commission were conspicuous by their absence.

BRS leader Dr. RS Praveen Kumar, in a post on X, alleged that “Ministers are openly transporting bundles of cash from MLA/MP Colony in Khairatabad using government vehicles (with ‘Govt Vehicle’ stickers), MLAs’ cars, and chairmen’s cars to Jubilee Hills in large quantities. Locals are providing information. CM Revanth Reddy’s close aide EV Reddy resides in the vicinity!

He decried the absence of police or revenue officials, calling it “irrefutable evidence” of “official misuse” under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy‘s leadership.

“Police raided opposition BRS leaders’ homes today,” he recalled and urged the Returning Officer of Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad Collector, GHMC Commissioner and City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar to “rush teams there and prevent the murder of democracy in #JubileeHills.”
