Ambedkar Jayanti celebrated in Qatar by Telugu Dalit diaspora
The Telugu Dalit community from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in Qatar commemorated Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s 136th birth anniversary in Doha. The event, attended by prominent Indian community leaders, emphasised Ambedkar’s teachings on education and equality.

Dubai: The Telugu Dalit community from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana that lives in Qatar has commemorated Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s 136th birth anniversary.
The event was held on Monday evening in Doha and was attended by prominent Indian community members.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s teachings are still relevant to the Indian community whether they live at home or abroad, said Ms. Rajani Murthy, president of IWWO, while addressing the gathering. She urged the youth to pursue quality education as Dr. Ambedkar preached. She explained that the Indian Embassy in Qatar is at the forefront in rendering every possible assistance to aggrieved labourers, where a sizable dalit community is included.
Rajani Murty emphasised that Qatar and the rest of the Gulf provide fair opportunities to talent irrespective of caste or creed, where dalit youth are required to show their talent.
The Indian community in Qatar is united, where caste has never been a criterion, said Shanavas T. Bava, president of ICBF, a primer Indian community welfare organisation. He urged the community to enroll with the embassy and also avail the insurance scheme offered by the Indian community in Qatar.
Prominent community leaders K.S. Prasad, Manish Arun, Rajkumar Balla, Shanker Goud, Jafer Hussain spoke. Babu Sikolu, President of Jai Bheem Youth Organisation has presided over the event, floral tributes were paid to the Dalit icon during the event.
The event highlighted the prominent role of dappu (drum) beating art performed by a section of dalit community’s culture. The dappu is a symbol of a section of dalit existence, pride and achievement and indicates interest in their heritage.
