Amid flood warnings, 12 gates of Osman Sagar and 9 gates of Himayat Sagar lifted
In response to rising inflows, authorities lifted 12 gates of Osman Sagar and 9 of Himayat Sagar on Friday, releasing excess water into the River Musi. Hyderabad: Amid warnings of heavy inflows, 12 gates of Osman Sagar and 9 gates of Himayat Sagar were lifted on Friday. Assessing heavy inflows since Friday morning, the HMWSSB gradually increased the floodgates of the twin reservoirs. Twice, the officials issued flood warning alerts within the span of four to five hours on Friday.
By 12 noon, they had lifted eight floodgates of Osman Sagar and four floodgates of Himayat Sagar reservoirs. As inflows continued to rise and sensing danger, the officials further opened the floodgates by 5 pm, releasing surplus floodwater into the River Musi.
