While all Hyderabadis were staying within the safe parameters of their abode during the lockdown, the Hyderabad city police left no stone unturned to ensure the city dwellers’ safety.
From spreading awareness through campaigns like wearing coronavirus shaped helmets, and holding placards with awareness quotes on them, to safety announcements through patrols and sharing posts and video songs about the pandemic and safety measures on social media, they did everything possible.
The department allotted several check posts and checkpoints in and around the city to make sure no unnecessary vehicles were on the road and to ensure the safety of essential workers on the deserted roads.
The city cops went on patrolling to ensure zero movement during the night curfew. Also, keeping their safety in mind, the police personnel distributed sanitisers, masks, and gloves at many check posts in the city.
As the number of Covid cases in the city was increasing drastically, the police personnel began tracing the primary, secondary and tertiary contacts of the Covid-affected ones to alert them to quarantine and maintain distance from the rest. If the patient was home quarantined, the police also made regular visits to ensure the patient was in quarantine for a minimum of 14 days.
In addition, the department also acted as a link between the citizens and virtual service providers. They issued passes for essential service providers while monitoring price hikes and curbing black marketing, besides also distributing food, vegetables, and ration to the needy, migrant workers and transgenders.
However, the battle is not over yet. While the virus is still among us, these front line workers are still fighting for a greater cause and long, peaceful life of the mankind.
