Hyderabad: In a move to enhance the role of women personnel in frontline policing, the Khairatabad zone of Hyderabad City Police has trained one woman police constable from each police station in motorcycle riding and deployed them for regular field patrolling.
DCP Khairatabad K Shilpa Valli said the initiative was aimed at ensuring greater participation of women personnel in operational policing rather than confining them largely to reception, writing and other station-based duties.
“Women police personnel should be equally visible and actively involved in frontline policing,” she said.
The initiative is expected to improve the utilisation of available police resources, expand operational responsibilities for women constables and provide greater flexibility in field deployment.
Their presence on the streets is also expected to make policing more accessible to women, particularly those who may feel more comfortable approaching women police personnel.
Shilpa Valli said the initiative would help build public confidence and strengthen police-community engagement. Increased visibility of women personnel in patrol teams would encourage more women to approach the police directly and seek assistance, she added.
Describing it as a small operational change with a larger institutional purpose, the DCP said the focus was on having more women on patrol and making policing more accessible to the public while ensuring better utilisation of the police force.
