Raydupalem (Andhra Pradesh): A 55-year-old man in Kakinada district approached the police to verify whether any traffic challans were pending against the vehicles of his prospective son-in-law, hoping to assess the future groom’s sense of responsibility and driving behaviour before finalising his daughter’s marriage, an official said on Thursday.
Describing the act as rare and thoughtful, the police official said the man wanted to assess the character of the prospective groom through his conduct on the road rather than relying solely on conventional enquiries.
“The man wanted to know whether the prospective groom had been involved in cases such as rash driving, drunken driving or repeated traffic violations. We appreciated his sense of responsibility,” the official told PTI.
According to police, the man lost his wife several years ago and single-handedly raised his daughter, educating her to become an engineer despite hardships.
Recently, after finding a suitable alliance for his daughter, he approached the Rayudupalem Traffic Police on Tuesday with the registration numbers of a car and a two-wheeler belonging to the prospective groom.
Police said the man believed a person’s driving behaviour often reflected discipline, patience and social responsibility, prompting him to enquire about the challan history before finalising the marriage.

The official said he was pleasantly surprised by the unusual request and praised the man for adopting a responsible and practical approach while searching for a groom for his daughter.
