Gudur: A girl’s throat was slit by youth for spurning his love and when she died, he also attempted suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling, here on Thursday.

According to police, P Sudhakar and Chenchukrishnaiah are colleagues. Sudhakar’s daughter Tejaswini is in her final year of engineering.

Chenchukrishnaiah’s son Venkatesh fell in love with Tejaswani who did not like his overtures and complained to the elders. Chenchukrishnaiah then sent Venkatesh to Bengaluru. The latter returned home early this year due to Covid pandemic and was staying here.

Venkatesh started harassing Tejaswani again and unable to bear his torture, she even changed her mobile number.

When her parents were away on Thursday, Venkatesh went to their flat and slit Tejaswani’s throat with a sharp knife, then used her chunni to throttle her to death. He later tried to commit suicide by hanging himself using a saree.

Police, who found the girl dead, saw Venkatesh hanging and immediately shifted him to a hospital in Nellore where his condition is said to be critical.

On a complaint from the girl’s father, police registered a case against Venkatesh, his friend, and also Chenchukrishnaiah and the investigation is under way.
