Visakhapatnam: Former union Minister and BJP leader Daggubati Purandeswari has observed that AP is heading towards a financial emergency.
Addressing a media conference here on Sunday, she said that the grim situation was even driving the YSR Congress Party government to pledge future revenue of the Excise department to get loans. Instead of finding ways and means to improve revenue, the state government was trying to exploit the loopholes to secure loans and there was the danger of other states also following the AP example to become debtors, she feared.
Purandeswari also alleged that corporations were floated not to improve productivity but only to acquire loans while assets like government lands and buildings were being either sold or mortgaged. The situation was so bad, that today, even a to-be-born child carried debt of Rs.1.2 lakh.
She also said that the state budget lacked transparency and did not show the Rs.72,000 crore revenue deficit which was mentioned in the CAG report. The Central funds, including the funds released to face COVID pandemic were directed which was evident from the fact even the frontline workers during COVID were not paid their wages till date.
Also, Rs.1.3 lakh out of the Rs.1.8 lakh spent on each housing unit was funded by the Centre while the state gave only Rs.30,000 but changed the name to Jagananna scheme. Even these housing projects sanctioned by the Centre for the poor were not grounded yet, she stated.
The BJP leader noted that the PDS had failed miserably and the pensioners suffered. The employees were not paid their salaries. Also, no new investment was made in AP as the industrialists had no confidence in the government, she said. Only the Central government projects were implemented in the state and the state government which could not take up even filling potholes on the roads, however, was ready to blame the Centre to divert attention of the public, she remarked.
