Anganwadi teachers attempt to lay siege to Minister Vivek’s residence in Mancherial
Tension flared in Mancherial as Anganwadi teachers attempted to storm Minister Dr Vivek’s residence demanding salary hikes and recognition as government employees. Police foiled the protest, detaining the agitators briefly before releasing them in the evening

Mancherial: Tension prevailed in Mancherial on Monday when Anganwadi teachers attempted to lay siege to the residence of Minister Dr G Vivek, following a call given by CITU State committee.
The teachers gathered in front of the Minister’s residence and tried to enter, but were stopped by the police. An argument ensued, leading to mild tension at the spot. The teachers were later arrested and shifted to the local police station before being released in the evening.
CITU State president Sunitha criticised the Congress government for failing to keep its election promise of enhancing Anganwadi teachers’ salaries to Rs 18,000. She said despite repeated representations to the Minister and officials, their issues were ignored.
She demanded that the government recognise Anganwadi teachers as government employees, increase budgetary allocations to ICDS, operate pre-schools from Anganwadi centres, and recruit helpers without delay. She also called for the cancellation of online applications and withdrawal of face-recognition-based attendance.
Union leaders Ch Devadas, Vinoda, Aruna, Sabita Laxmi, Padmavathi, Sharada, Shirisha, Rajeshwari, Praveena, Gangabhavani and Manasa participated in the protest.
