Animal Care Centre for controlling street dog menace inaugurated in Khammam
The KMC has provided Rs 10 lakh funds for the maintenance of the centre at Rotary Nagar where the MPDO office was converted into the Animal Care Centre
Khammam: With the objective of controlling the street dog menace, Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) in association with Animal Welfare Society has established an Animal Care Centre in the city.
The KMC has provided Rs 10 lakh funds for the maintenance of the centre at Rotary Nagar where the MPDO office was converted into the Animal Care Centre. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar along with SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar and Municipal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi inaugurated the centre on Friday.
The street dogs caught by the dog catchers would be brought to this centre. Sterilisation of the street dogs to stem their population and administering anti-rabies vaccine would be done at the centre besides taking care of their other health care issues, the officials said.
For long, the citizens in the city have been complaining of the street dog menace. During the tenure of previous Municipal Council funds have been allocated to carry out sterilisation of street dogs with the help of veterinary department but it was materialised.
With the establishment of Animal Care Centre the issue of overpopulation of street dogs would be addressed, stated former deputy Mayor B Murali Prasad. Animal Welfare Society office bearers informed that all activities at the centre would be carried out as per animal welfare guidelines.
