Another farmer kills self in Adilabad over inability to repay debt; Eighth farmer suicide in district in two months

Adilabad: A 40-year-old farmer died, allegedly by suicide, as he was depressed over his inability to repay his crop loan at Borigaon village in Sirikonda mandal on Tuesday. This was the eighth case of suicide by a farmer in the district in the last two months.
Locals and family members said Bolli Raju from the village resorted to the drastic step by consuming pesticide as he was disheartened by his inability to repay a loan of Rs 9,000.
On Jan 25, A 55-year-old farmer, Mailarapu Narsaiah, died by suicide by allegedly hanging as he was depressed over his inability to repay mounting debts at Varthamannur village in Bazarhatnoor mandal.
Gode Govind Rao, 45, took the drastic step by consuming pesticide at his farm. Rao grew cotton in four acres of land taken on a lease from another farmer of the village by borrowing a loan of Rs.5 lakh on January 23.
Earlier, five farmers in the district died by suicide as they were disheartened by their inability to repay loans between December 1 to January 19.
