Mancherial: A cow managed to escape from the jaws of a tiger while grazing in the forests of Oddugudem village in Vemanapalli mandal on Saturday.
A shepherd said he had taken a herd of cattle deep inside of the forest for grazing. A tiger which was on the prowl attacked a cow from the herd. However, the cow escaped from the tiger and managed to reach home with bleeding neck injuries. The other cows scattered in an effort to save their lives, the shepherd said.
Upon receiving information from locals, Forest officials inspected the cow and confirmed that the injuries were caused by a tiger. They requested the villagers not to venture into forests for grazing the cattle and to avoid sudden confrontation with the wild animals. They also requested the villagers not to set up electrified fences around their farms to prevent damage of crops.
Officials said a tiger from Kumram Bheem Asifabad district had migrated into the forests of Vemanapalli mandal in search of territory for quite a long time. They added that it might have attacked the cow.
