Anshul Mishra aims to continue form at AP Amateur Golf Championship
Anshul Mishra, coming off a Bengaluru victory, will look to maintain his form at the IGU Andhra Pradesh Amateur Golf Championship in Visakhapatnam. The 16-year-old Kolkatan faces stiff competition from top amateurs, while wet weather could make putting decisive
Hyderabad: Coming off a splendid victory last week in Bengaluru, talented Anshul Mishra will look to carry that form into the IGU Andhra Pradesh Amateur Golf Championship, which gets underway at the East Point Golf Club in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday.
Mishra edged out Pritish Singh Karayat in a playoff at the IGU Rotary Southern India event on the first playoff hole. The 16-year-old Kolkatan, also the reigning all-India champion, has settled into some rhythm after a poor start to the season.
Like in Bengaluru, it won’t be easy for Mishra to be the last one standing, as the country’s top amateurs have descended on Vizag for the eighth event of the season. With the city having experienced wet weather in recent days, the par-72, 6,971-yard layout could play a little longer. Although distance may not be a concern for most of the 69 amateurs in the fray, putting could well be the key.
“I feel good about my game right now,” Mishra said after the practice round on Monday. “I like this course, and you need to be accurate from tee to green to have a chance.”
Although Mishra will be the cynosure, Order of Merit leader Arin Ahuja, Sukhman Singh, Deepak Yadav and Ranveer Mitroo, to name a few, have the potential to spoil Mishra’s encore hopes.
