Hyderabad: Did you know there’s a waterfall just 20 km from LB Nagar junction? Yes, nestled in the hills near the village Kawadipally, are the small but beautiful waterfalls called Antharaganga Falls. It’s location makes it perfect for a quick weekend morning trek.
The fact that it is largely unknown makes it better, as only the locals and students from the nearby colleges seem to know about this place. The place is easily accessible too, as you can take your vehicle almost to the bottom of the hill and from there it’s a short but a moderate trek.
While heading towards Vijayawada from LB Nagar on NH65, 5 km after you cross the ORR, you will reach Abdullahpurmet and about 1 km after that, you come across a petrol bunk on the left and a college arch right beside the bunk. Take the left and follow the road for another 2 km till you reach the base of the hill. You can park your vehicles there and start trekking up the hill. If you are coming from the opposite parts of the city, it is advisable to take the ORR and take exit 11.
The trek is a bit challenging as you need to scramble over boulders and follow a narrow path at times. Just ahead of the point where you start walking towards the hill, you’ll spot a small stream and follow it upstream till you reach the falls. It’s about a 30-minute trek and the route is also fairly easy to spot as you can clearly see a path through the rocks and the trees there.
The water really gushes here when it rains and if you go there a day after it rains, you’ll most likely get to relish the full beauty of the small waterfalls.
One thing to keep in mind while trekking up to the falls is to wear proper foot-wear with a good grip on the rocks as it is quite slippery at many places. It is also advisable to carry water and energy bars as the scrambling can get a little tiring as well. Along the way, you will come across different types of monkeys, peacocks, reptiles and other small animals. Just be careful with the monkeys.
Almost at the top of the hill is where you will see the small pool formed at the base of the falls and the view from there is great too. You can sit and relax there and the water is clean so you can play around as well.
If you go there, make sure you don’t litter the place. There’s a lot of plastic trash strewn about the entire route, thrown by careless trekkers. Help conserve the beauty and sanctity of nature and don’t litter.
