Hyderabad: CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said an anti-BJP wave was blowing across the country and appealed to the Election Commission to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner in the five States.

The party’s three-day Central Committee meeting concluded here on Sunday. Addressing media persons on the occasion, he said BJP would use money power and trigger disturbances during the elections.

The Election Commission should initiate measures to facilitate every citizen to come forward and exercise his or her franchise, he said.

“Our target is to ensure BJP’s defeat in these elections. We will join hands with any political party that is against BJP,” said Sitaram Yechury.

He said CPM was open to all parties willing to put up a fight against BJP. “Accordingly, our party leaders met Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Saturday and we would also extend support to Samajwadi Party in the Uttar Pradesh elections,” Sitaram Yechury said.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed on all fronts. Right from escalating prices of essential commodities to unemployment, the country was plagued with several issues,” he added.
