Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has expressed solidarity with the state-wide bandh called on Friday to protest privatisation of Visakhapatnam steel plant.

Talking to media persons here on Thursday, Transport minister Perni Nani said that the Vizag steel plant was built in the aftermath of a struggle launched by Telugu people and the plant should remain as public property. The Centre should think of alternatives to avoid privatisation of the plant.

“In this context, the government expresses its solidarity for the state bandh tomorrow. All the APSRTC buses would be stopped till 1 p.m. and in the afternoon, the workers will attend duties wearing black badges,” he said.

Government Whip Samineni Udayabhanu said that the YSR Congress Party fully supported the bandh proposed by all trade unions and political parties and urged employees, business houses and state and Central institutions also to support the bandh. Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy had already announced that a resolution would be adopted in the Assembly opposing the privatisation of Vizag steel plant, he recalled.
