Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Central Crime Station officials arrested one Sashidhar Reddy (29) from Visakhapatnam on charges of fraudulently claiming Income Tax Returns on Friday.
Officials said the suspect got the PAN and Aadhar card details of NRIs from different sources and opened fake accounts on their names and claimed ITRs, thereby cheating the IT Department and the citizens. The fraud came to light recently after a NRI from USA, who filed the IT returns with refund of Rs 21.8 lakh was intimated that the refund was made, but he did not receive.
“While he followed it up, it was learnt that the refund was processed and issued to the banker. It was credited into another’s person’s bank account from Vishakhapatnam, the account which was not updated by them. Upon checking the portal, they found that the bank account was updated in the IT portal and the profile details were also changed,” said a CCS official.
