Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam Apartment Residents’ Welfare Association (VARWA) and residential colonies’ associations’ federation Nivas, on Thursday staged a protest demonstration at the GVMC Gandhi statue opposing the notification by the GVMC Commissioner to impose User Charges for garbage collection.
Addressing the protesters who came from different localities in the city, General Secretary-Forum for Development of North Andhra (FDNA) Aja Sarma said that it was in no way justified to impose User Charges for garbage collection because the proposed property tax included charges for garbage treatment, underground drainage, provision of drinking water and other services to the people of the city. Imposition of User charges was a huge burden on the people, he stated.
