Hyderabad: In a significant step towards resolving pending issues related to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, the Chief Secretaries of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana reached an agreement on several matters during a two-hour meeting at the APIIC office in Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh on Monday. They resolved to distribute labour cess amounting to Rs 861 crore between the two States.

Andhra Pradesh also agreed to return excess amount of Rs 81 crore of excise tax which was released by Telangana to the former. A major decision was taken to form a joint committee comprising police and excise officials to tackle drug prevention effectively.

The official delegations led by Telangana Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari and her Andhra Pradesh counterpart Neerab Kumar Prasad, discussed multiple pending issues during the meeting. While a consensus was achieved on several points, some contentious topics like the allocation of assets and liabilities of Schedule IX and X institutions, electricity dues, and the transfer of employees remain unresolved. Officials decided to hold departmental consultations to finalise decisions on tax remittances and announced plans for another meeting to further deliberate on pending matters.
