Hyderabad: A cyber harassment case has been registered after the wife of an Army Major was allegedly targeted by cybercriminals who morphed her photographs and videos into obscene content using artificial intelligence and circulated them on social media.
The woman, a resident of Secunderabad, was allegedly targeted after cybercriminals collected her photographs and videos from online sources. The crooks are suspected to have used AI-based tools to manipulate the content and create obscene images and videos.
The morphed material was subsequently uploaded on social media platforms. The accused allegedly went a step further by sharing the posts and links with the woman’s relatives, friends and family members while attempting to blackmail and harass her.
Following the harassment, her husband, an Army Major, personally conducted preliminary open-source intelligence (OSINT) research to trace the digital footprint of the perpetrators. Using OSINT tools, he reportedly identified several social media links and account details allegedly used by the accused.
He later approached the Hyderabad Cybercrime police and lodged a complaint. Cybercrime officials have registered a case and are examining the digital evidence to identify the persons behind the accounts.
