Hyderabad: An increase of around 13.34 per cent was witnessed in overall crime rate in Cyberabad in 2021. A total of 30,954 cases were registered this year as against 27,336 cases in the previous years in Cyberabad Commissionerate limits.

Similarly, an increase of about nine per cent was witnessed in the overall crime rate in Rachakonda this year. The year saw the police booking a total of 23,045 cases in 2021 as against 20,467 cases the previous year.

In Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates, a rise was witnessed in cybercrimes, crimes against women including rape and POCSO cases, kidnappings, murder attempts, murders, burglaries and economic offences.

The Rachakonda police ensured the conviction rate increased, dealt with iron fist cases of women and child trafficking and busted major drug rackets this year and their counterparts in Cyberabad fared well in reducing road accidents, crimes against weaker sections and hurt cases.

In both the commissionerates, the police were dealing in drunken driving instances with iron fist. In Cyberabad, the police booked 34,746 cases for drunk driving and 3,790 persons were jailed for the violation while in Rachakonda, a total of 580 persons were sent for imprisonment by the court for the same violation.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Stephen Raveendra said the population of Cyberabad is increasing every year with the city expanding and hence there is an increase in the cases at the police stations. “There is a lot of urbanization in the Cyberabad. We are taking up additional responsibility of effective policing and to provide support to industry growth areas,” he said.

Rachakonda CP Mahesh Bhagwat said the police registered cases whenever a person came with a complaint. “Cases were registered following due legal procedure on every complaint received at the police station and investigated. We expect the number of cases to increase in following years as people have confidence in the police,” he said.
