Hyderabad: With the monsoon already entered, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials set their eyes on dilapidated buildings in the city.
On Thursday, the GHMC Commissioner, RV Karnan, held a video conference with zonal commissioners and town planning officials. He instructed them to identify dilapidated and dangerous buildings and ensure the safety of human lives.
As of now, the GHMC has conducted a survey and identified 428 dilapidated buildings. Of these, 131 buildings can be taken up for repairs, and for the remaining 297 buildings, notices were served to vacate them as a precautionary measure. “In case any untoward incident occurs in the respective jurisdictions, serious action will be taken against the official,” warned the Commissioner.
The Commissioner also instructed the officials to ensure that no permission is sanctioned to build new cellars from May 30 until the monsoon concludes. Safety measures like building retaining walls and ensuring that no water stagnates in the cellars already under construction must be implemented.
