ASHA workers protest on highway in Mahabubnagar
ASHA workers staged a protest on a national highway near Jadcherla in Mahabubnagar, demanding pending salaries and implementation of promised pay hike. The protest disrupted traffic, and a brief scuffle broke out between workers and police.

Mahabubnagar: Demanding payment of salaries, ASHA workers staged a protest on a national highway at Kavarampet near Jadcherla here on Monday. Traffic movement on the Hyderabad-Kurnool route was affected due to the protest.
Raising slogans and holding placards, they turned up in large numbers on the highway and staged a protest for over an hour. The ASHA workers complained that they had not been paid salaries for the last six months.
They also complained that the government was utilising their services for different initiatives but was not paying salaries. The ASHA workers also demanded that the Congress government increase their monthly salaries to Rs 18,000 as promised before the elections.
They demanded that local Congress MLA J Anirudh Reddy intervene and raise their issues with the State government. As the ASHA workers squatted on the road and traffic movement was affected, police reached the spot and tried to convince them to stop their protest, according to reports.
There was a scuffle between the ASHA workers and police for a while as they were bundled into vans, reports said.
