Asifabad: The District Panchayat Officer (DPO) Addala Srikanth was surrendered to the government for allegedly harassing lower rank officials by demanding bribes. An order to this effect was issued by Collector Rahul Raj on Monday evening.
According to the order, Srikanth was surrendered to the government and was replaced by district employment officer Ravi Krishna. He was posted as DPO of the district six months back. He had worked in Khammam district before being transferred to the district.
Sources said that Rahul Raj and Additional Collector Varun Reddy made enquiries into charges of corruption leveled against Srikanth. The enquiries revealed that DPO accepted bribes from Panchayat Secretaries and field functionaries and was spoiling the working environment of the district. A strongly worded letter was written against him, requesting the government to take action against him.
It is learnt that he had collected huge amounts for posting secretaries in their choice places of work by conducting a written examination unlike anywhere in the State. It is said that he had not promoted 35 Junior Panchayat Secretaries as done elsewhere in Telangana. As a result, the secretaries are unable to get a monthly salary of Rs 29,000 as promised by the government.
