Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has established a formidable lead of 63,029 votes over his nearest Congress rival Bidisha Neog in the Jalukbari constituency, according to the Election Commission.

The BJP leader is looking to retain the Jalukbari constituency for the sixth consecutive term.

He polled 89,562 votes, while Neog secured 26,533 votes at the end of the 13th round of counting.

Sarma had failed to win his first election from the constituency in 1996, but his winning streak continued from 2001, with his victory margin increasing in each poll, achieving a record winning margin of 1,01,000 in 2021.
