Hyderabad: The Meerpet police solved a burglary case within two hours of being reported and arrested a suspect. Stolen material worth Rs 3.9 lakh was also recovered from his possession. Police said the suspect, S Nagaiah, an auto-rickshaw driver from Meerpet in Balapur mandal, was regularly hired by an elderly couple living in Tirumala Hills in Meerpet for going out for shopping and banks.
“He also helped them in withdrawing money from the ATM centres and thus knew their PIN too. He became very close to the couple. But, due to financial problems, he decided to burgle their house and waited for an opportunity,” police said. On Friday afternoon, the couple hired Nagaiah’s auto-rickshaw for going out for shopping at Meerpet cross roads. On reaching, they got down forgetting the house key in the vehicle.
“The suspect who noticed the key in the passenger seat took his friend’s bike and went to the couple’s house. He opened the main door and broke open the almirah and stole gold ornaments,” police said. On receiving a complaint from the elderly couple, the police team collected technical evidence and with the help of the surveillance cameras arrested Nagaiah.
