Peddapalli: An autorickshaw driver’s alertness saved the life of an elderly woman in Godavarikhani town on Friday.
Upset over family members’ negligence, a 60-year-old woman from Vittalnagar had decided to end her life by jumping into the Godavari river on the outskirts of Godavarikhani town.
She boarded an autorickshaw and asked the driver to take her to the Godavari river since she wanted to commit suicide.
Instead of taking her to the river, the autorickshaw driver brought her to the Two-I police station, where she was given counselling by CI Indrasena Reddy.
Stating that suicide was not a solution to problems, the CI assured her of all kinds of support and said he would take steps for her safety by talking to her son and daughters.
He also contacted a local politician to trace the whereabouts of the family members. Later, SI Anusha and other police personnel went to her locality and handed her over to family members after giving counselling to them.
