Nalgonda: Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Friday said it was decided to plant saplings along 6,437 km of Panchayat Raj roads in the State this financial year under the multi-layer avenue plantation.
The Minister, who was returning to Hyderabad after attending a private programme at Chandur in the district, interacted with workers of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (MGNREGP) who were planting saplings at Munugode.
He enquired with Munugode village secretary about the status of avenue plantation in the limits of the village. He instructed the village secretary to take measures to ensure the survival of every sapling planting under the avenue plantation. Priority should be given to watering the saplings and tree guards should be erected for their protection, he added.
He said that they had so far covered 3,208 km of PR roads with avenue plantation against the targeted 6,437 km, and the remaining 3,229 km would be covered by the end of this financial year.
He said that the total target of planting 8.76 crore saplings was fixed for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development under Telangana Ku Haritha Haram (TKHH) for this financial year, which includes avenue plantation also. Planting of 7.91 crore saplings was completed by the department till today, he added.
