Hyderabad: An aviation community on social media platform Reddit has come forward and asked its members to stop sharing real-time data on defense aircraft in the backdrop of the Pahalgam attack.
Stating that this was part of the sub-reddit group’s responsibility towards operational security and sensitive real-world events, the moderator noted that given the recent India-Pakistan developments, there was a surge in posts sharing real-time movements of Indian defense aircraft from platforms like FlightRadar24.
“While we understand the interest, we’re temporarily disallowing posts that track or speculate on live military aircraft movements. This is to maintain responsibility towards operational security and sensitive real-world events,” it said, asking members to be mindful that the Indian military does not encourage the public sharing of defense aircraft movements, even if sourced from public platforms.
It was also to avoid potential misinformation or unwanted attention during tense times, the moderator noted, adding that they were not banning defense-related discussions entirely.
“But please avoid posting real-time data or speculative content around active operations,” they added.
