Hyderabad: The Commissioner of Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Authority (Hydraa), A V Ranganath, on Monday urged people planning to invest in apartments or independent houses to first verify whether the structure is built on encroached nala land.

Interacting with petitioners during Hydraa Prajavani, Ranganath said, “It is important to be cautious while purchasing property. Properties built on encroached nala can lead to legal and environmental issues. These properties may face demolition orders from the government, resulting in financial loss for the owners.”

At Prajavani, the authorities received a total of 47 petitions, the majority of them related to encroachments on nalas and old layouts, a Hydraa press release stated.

In one complaint, locals petitioned that out of 1,000 sq yards of land, a small temple was built on 500 sq yards of park land earmarked in Officer’s Colony at Punjagutta. They requested protection of the remaining 500 sq yards to develop it as a park.

In another case, residents urged Hydraa to protect 900 sq yards of park land at Vajra Enclave in Jonnabanda village under Alwal mandal.
