Animal Warriors Conservation Society has decided to place Water bowls at 150 places initially in Hyderabad and surrounding areas
Sangareddy: Hyderabad based Animal Warriors Conservation Society (AWCS) has decided to place water bowls at over 150 places in Hyderabad and surrounding areas to help birds and street dogs survive the scorching summer heat.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Pradeep Nair, founder of AWCS, said the society will supply water bowls to citizens who are willing to place them close to their residences and fill them regularly to save birds and other animals throughout the summer. With rising temperatures, Nair said that many water bodies also go dry making it difficult for wild-life and street dogs to find water.
Stating that April and May are crucial months for wildlife till the monsoon begins in June, Nair said the society receives at least 30 calls from citizens during summer on finding dehydrated birds or dying because of the heat. “A large number of such cases go unreported because not many care for them. Though birds entangled in manja can survive for a couple of days during winter or rainy season, they will die within a couple of hours during the summer,” he said, stating that this was considered a major threat to birds during summer.
He called upon citizens to extend support to them by making donations to buy bowls. Since effort from AWCS alone would not be sufficient to meet the demand, Nair said they will also sensitise the citizens to make them place water bowls at their residences voluntarily.
